Rs. 74.93 cr flood management projects for Shangus: Sham Lal Sharma

Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today informed the House that a comprehensive project of Rs. 74.93 crore under flood management programme of Shangus constituency has been approved by Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for funding under AIBP adding that the work on the project will be taken up for execution after approval and release of funds from the Centre.Replying to a question by Peerzada Mansoor Hussain in Legislative Assembly today the Minister said that construction of 12 Water Supply Schemes (WSS) in Shangus constituency is apace at a total estimated cost of Rs. 20.25 crore against which over Rs. 13.25 crore were expended during last three fiscals and out of which 5 WSSs have been completed and 4 WSS would be targeted to complete this financial year.

The PHE Minister said that discharge for providing irrigation facilities in some areas of the constituency got drastically reduced in July 2013 and the canal / khuls also got damaged during floods of August 2013. He, however, said that assured irrigation was provided to these areas by way of temporary restoration of damages.The Minister said that project for erosion control works in Shangus constituency stands completed. He, however said that some urgent works were taken up in hand in consultation with local MLA during last two years. He said regular staff is being deployed on irrigation canals and in addition seasonal coolies are also being deployed during irrigation season.Mr. Rafi Ahmad Mir, Mr. G. M. Saroori and Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia also raised supplementaries and urged for improved irrigation and PHE facilities in their constituencies.The Minister assured that appropriate steps would be taken to redress the grievances regarding improvement of irrigation and water supply facilities in their constituencies well in time.
