Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati inaugurated a day long workshop on National Aviation University here today. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Dr. Mahesh Sharma was also present on the occasion. Key officials of the Ministry and experts from the industry and academia deliberated upon measures to sort out initial steps for the University which is soon to be set up. The workshop aimed to arrive at an integrated perspective on post-graduate and under graduate education, research domains, executive education, industry linkages and skilling, faculty sourcing and Ministry-University relationship.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati said that the objective of the University shall be to develop academic standards of an international level and undertake other measures as it may deemed fit to facilitate the development for skilled aviation manpower including the licensed category of aviation personnel. He added that a sense of direction should guide the measures for promoting innovation in teaching-learning process and undertaking inter-disciplinary studies and research. Drawing attention of the participants towards the shortage of manpower in the sector, Dr. Mahesh Sharma emphasized that deliberations at the workshop should be a guiding map for the civil aviation industry. He said that the university would facilitate and promote aviation studies with focus on emerging areas of studies such as aviation management, aviation regulation and policy.
The Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University Act, 2013 received the assent of the President on 18th September, 2013 to establish a university by the name of “Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University” at Fursatganj in district Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. The National Aviation University aims, inter alia, to create an ambience for learning and scholarship in aviation technology and to develop various programmes for airlines, airport, aviation authorities and staff.
