Chandigarh based Aryans Group of Colleges today launched special scholarship scheme for needy and deserving girls under “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” scheme. The scheme was launched today in a function held by Aryans Group at PHD Chamber, Sec-31, Chandigarh. Vijay Sampla, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment was the Chief Guest; Harjit Singh Grewal, Chairman, Punjab Khadi Board was the Guest of Honour while Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges presided over the event. While speaking on the occasion Chief Guest, Sh Vijay Sampla said that we are living in 21stcentury but the people living here still have a mindset of 18th century who are discriminating between sons and daughters. Modifying the theme he quoted it should be “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Beta Samjhao” so that boys could also feel the importance on the same.

Under this scheme 50 girls would be benefitted in which 50% of scholarship will be provided by the college and rest 50% will be financed in shape of Education Loan by on Engineering and Diploma Courses. This is to enable the financially constrained girls to explore their potential in engineering and technology fields who either are choosing short term and courses. Those girls who want to avail this scholarship can give a missed call on Toll free helpline 1800-30000-388. Harjit Singh Grewal, Chairman, Punjab Khadi Board while appreciating the major initiatives for girls education said that Promotion of Women’s education has been one of the cornerstones of our educational policy. Unfortunately, girls still face discrimination in our society. Son preference has led to various abhorrent practices including female foeticide. New initiatives have, therefore, become necessary to give the girl child her due, and to empower her for a life of equality and dignity.

Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Dr Anshu Kataria said, “We are delighted to launch this new Scholarship which will hopefully encourage more young women in India to enroll in technology and engineering courses.” He further said that girls are doing well in sports, education, health sectors and agriculture but there ratio is very less in technical courses due to their non interest, High fee structure and with a mindset that they could not perform well in technical courses. It is to mentioned that on the occasion Vice Chairman, PSEB, Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri; President, PUTIA, Dr. J.S Dhaliwal; Sh. Kuldeep Bhangewala; Sh Ravinder Kataria; Sh Amrit Sagar; Director General, Aryans Group, Dr. Parveen Kataria; Registrar, Aryans Group, Prof B.S Sidhu; Principal, Aryans Group, Dr. Manjula Kataria were also present.
