Trinamool Congress's Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose quit as member of parliament as also from the party Thursday, a day after getting bail in a case related to the Saradha chit fund scam. Politics is "not my cup of tea", he said.Bose, who spent 75 days in police and jail custody after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, announced his decision to quit as an MP and also from the primary membership of Trinamool in a media release here."I would like to inform that with immediate effect, I have resigned from my membership of the Rajya Sabha. I have also decided to resign from the primary membership of the party - the Trinamool Congress," he said in the release.

Bose, editor of his party's mouthpiece Jago Bangla and vernacular newspaper Sambad Pratidin, said it was during his days in custody that he understood "politics is not my cup of tea". He also said pressure from his family shaped his decision."During my days in custody, I finally realised that politics is not my cup of tea. There has also been a lot of pressure from my family, specially from my mother and my wife which finally made me take the decision," the release said.Bose, however, thanked Trinamool supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for making him an MP."I would also like to express my deepest gratitude and thanks to all persons who have stood by my family during these extremely difficult times."Bose was arrested Nov 21, 2014, by the CBI for alleged criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of funds and deriving undue financial benefits in connection with the multi-crore-rupee Sarada ponzy scam.The assistant general secretary of city soccer giants Mohun Bagan, Bose is the first senior Trinamool leader to be granted bail in the scam.
