The locals from Kalhota hamlet in District Doda which is the native place of Union Minister and BJP senior leader Dr Jitendra Singh Rana Tuesday staged a protest highlighting the drinking water problem in their village. The protestors mostly women while displaying the contaminated and muddy water that they obtain from a single hand pump in the village told CNS that their repeated pleas to the authorities for augmentation of potable water supply failed to yield any result.
They regretted that the problem remained unattended even after they made a representation to their representative and BJP leader Dr Jitendra Singh. “We are becoming victims of water-borne diseases such as jaundice and gastro enteritis for want of potable water. The single hand pump in our village trickles only muddy water. As a result the inhabitants have been consuming water from the streams,” Sheila Devi, a protestor said. When contacted an official said that Deputy Commissioner has already instructed the authorities to solve the water problem in the village on a priority basis.
