Governor launches Iron Folic Acid Supplementation Programme

Urmila Singh, Governor who is on a two day tour to the tribal area of Lahaul and Spiti launched the Weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFAS) Programme of Health department at Udaipur today. She distributed Iron folic tablets to students of 6th to 12th standards on the occasion. Governor also visited Sri Trilokinath and Sri Mrikuladevi temples and offered prayers.She was welcomed by the local Mahila Mandals in a traditional manner at both the places and honoured with a cap and shawl. Smt Singh appreciated the scenic beauty of the area and said that the Buddhist monasteries and temples of Lahaul Spiti attracted tourists from home and abroad and the area had vast potential for development of tourism. It was also the favourite destination of adventure lovers, she added. 

She said that the culture of the valley was unique in its own way and should be preserved. She stressed upon generating awareness regarding environment protection so that the natural beauty of the area could be protected.Governor also presented a cheque of Rs. one lakh from State Red Cross Society Fund to Smt. Kesari Devi whose husband is suffering with cancer. Local MLA Shri Ravi Thakur welcomed the Governor on the occasion.Later, she also visited Jispa and enjoyed a colourful cultural programme presented by the children of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Government Senior Secondary School, Keylong. Earlier, Governor was accorded a rousing reception at Udaipur helipad by the local MLA Shri Ravi Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Shri Bir Singh Thakur, Superintendent of Police Shri Sunil Kumar, officers of district administration and prominent people of the area.
