Dessu, a village in Kokarnag Duksum area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad district is without electricity for the past one year while its two adjoining villages Goran Khal and Junkshun have been reeling under darkness for more than six months. The residents of Dessu hamlet told CNS that, “the electricity to the village was cut in the year 2013 December after a 63 KV transformer got damaged due to over loading and after that no transformer was installed in the village as a result the village comprised of more than 100 houses is reeling under darkness since then. The villagers added that they had been running from pillar to post since then to get the electricity restored to the village, but all in vain. The residents of Goran Khal and Junkshun villages also said that PDD did not take any pains to install their damaged transformers. They alleged thatPDD employees of these areas have been demanding bribe from them to get the new transformers installed. When contacted, a top PDD official told CNS that he will look into the matter and will ensure that transformers get installed in the area at an earliest. (CNS)
