With the suspense continuing over the formation of new government in Jammu and Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) general secretary Ram Madhav and state unit chief Jugal Kishore met Governor NN Vohra Tuesday and deliberate over the issue.The Governor on Friday had sent separate letters, inviting PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti and state President of BJP, Jugal Kishore Sharma for discussions over government formation.According to KNS correspondent Jugal Kishore after meeting governor talked to reporters and said that though the meeting with the governor can be seen a part of the ongoing process for the government formation but BJP leader will meet the Governor on January 1 to hand over a detailed proposal of BJP about the government formation.
Asked about the possibility of grand alliance between NC, PDP and Congress, he said, “Though I am not aware about the formation of any such alliance, but if any such alliance is formed, it would be a betrayal with the people of state as BJP got the maximum share of votes in the elections".He said that talks are on with the other parties for the government formation. “Talks are going on. We are exploring options on who will support the BJP, but only BJP can provide a stable government to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.Demanding that the next chief minister should be from BJP, he said, “We think that Chief Minister should be from the BJP. The party president is the final authority to take a decision on it,” he said.
BJP with 25 MLAs is the second largest party and needs another 19 to reach the halfway mark of 44 in the 87-member Assembly. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 28 MLAs, followed by National Conference (15), Congress (12) and seven legislators from smaller parties and independents.Meanwhile, PDP has also suggested an alliance with its arch rival National Conference and the Congress with PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akthar saying the tie up is also an option. Sources told KNS that PDP, which is holding intra-party discussions on possible alliances to form the next government in the state, has asked its newly-elected MLAs to go back to their constituencies for getting feedback from their constituents. Sources said the PDP patron wants to build a consensus within the party before taking any decision over the government formation. (KNS)
