Delhi shivered at 2.6 degrees Celsius Sunday, the season's coldest day, as thick fog brought visibility to less than 50 meters seriously affecting train and road traffic. The temperature was five notches below the normal average. But the Met office forecast a clear day ahead."There was dense fog in the morning and the visibility was less than 50 metres at 8.30 a.m.," said an official of the India Meteorological Department. In most open areas, the situation did not change even two hours later.

According to the Northern Railway, 63 trains coming into the city were delayed while six trains departing from Delhi were rescheduled. Four trains were cancelled.Road traffic was also hit. Most motorists drove slowly, with their headlights on.The day's maximum temperature is likely to hover around 19 degrees Celsius. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 97 percent."It was literally impossible to drive my bike in the fog. I was unable to see beyond 10 metres. It's a bone-chilling day," said Ram Kishore, a commuter after crossing the DND flyway that links Delhi and Noida. Saturday's maximum temperature settled a level below the season's average at 19.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 4.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average.
