Reiterating his aim of taking Uri to higher levels of growth and development, Health Minister and senior Congress leader Choudhary Taj Mohi ud Din has said once voted to power Congress would make the town an excellent centre of urban activities.Addressing a series of public meetings at Zehanpore and Ijara during his election campaign, Ch. Taj development of Uri has been more of a mission to him. He said the development of Uri is an open chapter for everyone to watch. He asked the people to make a comparison of what the town was 12 years ago and draw conclusions then only. He said he entered into Uri’s active politics in 2002 so that an era of development dawns upon the people of the area who suffered immensely during the last 60 years. “Uri has moved since then and I want to take this town to the level of cities like Srinagar and Jammu”, Taj vowed.
The people, on the occasion, thanked the Minister for launching development offensive in the constituency including development of roads, upgradation of social infrastructure including schools, hospitals and Anganwari centres.The people thanked Taj for achieving cent per cent coverage of water supply schemes and electricity. They said now almost 99 % of Uri residents have drinking water facility and electricity connections.Taj thanked the people for the continued support to him during the last 12 years saying he has been overwhelmed by the response. He assured the people that he would leave no stone unturned in getting people of the area their due share in governance and development. It was a huge gathering of people in which thousands of young and old, men and women had gathered and pledged support to Taj.
