Punjab Decides To Put The Pending Issues Concerning To Mega Projects On Fast Track

Decision Taken In The Special Meeting Of Screening Committee Presided Over By Chief Secretary

The Chief Secretary, Punjab late evening presided over a meeting of the Screening Committee for Mega Projects to discuss the pending mega project issues and policy matters.  This meeting was attended by Mr. Kamal Oswal, Industrial Advisor to the Chief Minister, Punjab and many industrialists who have applied for setting up Mega Projects in the State.Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that during the meeting the Chief Secretary explained that the Government of Punjab is committed to ensure that Industrial Policy of the Government is implemented in the best interest of the Industry in the State. 

In today’s meeting numbers of issues which include fixation of conversion charges for the Change of Land Use from industrial to mixed land use for the multiplexes, charging of electricity duty from Textile industrial Mega Projects, clearances for expansion of some Mega projects were discussed. The Screening Committee cleared number of projects. The Chief Secretary instructed the concerned departments to give top priority to pending issues of Mega Projects.  Secretary Housing & Urban Development, Secretary, Science & Technology, Secretary, Power and other senior functionaries of the Government were present in the meeting. 

The next meeting of the Screening Committee has been fixed after 2 weeks and it was decided that hence forth no delay on the part of the Government departments shall be tolerated as far as clearances of Mega projects are concerned. However, the Chief Secretary exhorted the industrialists to extend maximum cooperation to the officials of the concerned departments as far as providing of information and requisite documentation is concerned.
