National Conference Tuesday lashed out at PDP MP Tariq Hameed Karra for his ‘audacity to sermonize despite the fact that he himself broke all records of corruption during his stint as a Minister in the PDP Government and despite the fact that Karra was a notorious land-grabber who was out to dispossess dozens of innocent families in Shivpora to satiate his bottomless appetite for illegally acquired and occupied property.’“Tariq Karra was involved in serious bungling and backdoor appointments in the State during his stint as a Minister in the Mufti Sayeed Government. This was brought to fore very clearly in the Kundal Committee report as well. In fact Tariq Karra led PDP’s corrupt team from the front in succeeding to make J&K the most corrupt State in the country during PDP’s tenure”, NC Spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu alleged.
He alleged that Karra had grabbed hundreds of kanals of custodian land and land belonging to the locals worth millions in Shivpora through the use of muscle and money. “Locals in Shivpora have repeatedly demanded justice and a relief from Karra’s efforts to terrorize and harass them. Karra is neither a direct descendant nor an heir to the properties in question nor has he paid any fees to legitimize his occupation. Karra’s occupation of this land is out rightly illegal and constitutes a serious case of land-grabbing and impropriety on part of a sitting Member of Parliament,” Mattu further alleged.
“Karra’s own political history has been full of u-turns and betrayals with the same people who gave him political patronage. It is a fact that Karra was out to split PDP into half just a year back and almost succeed in leading a coup against Mufti Sayeed’s leadership based on the fact that it was none other than Karra who was the architect of a split-away faction that stood in opposition to Mufti Sayeed. Today Karra is trying to be more loyal than the king while forgetting his statements and intrigues against his own party”, the NC Spokesman said. The NC Spokesman also lashed out at Karra for “absconding from his duties as an elected Member of Parliament from Srinagar when Srinagar was submerged in flood waters.”“Where was Tariq Karra during the floods? It was his duty as the MP for Srinagar to coordinate the relief and rescue operations but just like PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, PDP MP from Srinagar Tariq Karra also deserted Srinagar during the darkest hours of the natural calamity,” he added.
