Senior National Conference (NC) leader Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone Sunday lashed out at those political forces who were trying to pide people of Jammu and Kashmir in the name of region and religion ahead of elections.Addressing huge election rallies in Sonawari constituency of Bandipora district he said, “Some political parties were trying to incite communal disharmony in the state ahead of elections which is unfortunate. But Kashmiri nation has always demonstrated a strong secular character and it was Kashmir’s secularism that prompted Mahatma Gandhi in 1947 to say that ‘I see a ray of hope from Kashmir’.”He urged the youth of the state to carry forward the centuries old amity and brotherhood between different communities.
The NC leader said that sensing their defeat in elections some political parties were trying to woo voters by making false promises with them. “Now they claim that 2015 will be the year of reconstruction and development. Why didn’t they do the same when they were in power?” he asked.“The development which happened in last six years in the state is unprecedented and it will continue after NC forms next government,” Lone added. He also criticized coalition partner Congress for blaming NC for ‘negative’ points while taking credit of all good things done by the government. “I am surprised that the Congress, after six years of being in the government and occupying key cabinet portfolios, is blaming the NC for all the criticisms, while taking credit for all the good things done by the government,” he added.
