Punjab Revenue and Public Relations Minister, Bikram Singh Majithia today said that a demand for Special Financial Package by Captain Amarinder Singh led delegation of congressmen from Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was a mere political gimmick and described his silence on grave injustices meted out to Punjab during last 8 years by Congress led UPA Government, a criminal negligence. He said that Captain had not gone to advocate for Special Financial Package but to save his captaincy of Punjab Congress, which was in danger ever since the recent Vidhan Sabha debacle.In a statement issued here, Majithia said that Congress leaders cannot befool the people of state by adopting such publicity stunts on the eve of Local Bodies Elections as they had obstructed the sanctioning of HUDCO loan for Urban Development to Punjab besides scuttling various infrastructural and development projects. He blamed that the congress leaders stooped so low that they pressurized Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh against inaugurating the unique Virasat-E-Khalsa.The Minister said that if Captain was sincere to the interests of Punjab, he should press the Union Government to stop discriminatory attitude towards Punjab and to initiate efforts for the release of Special Economic Package, approval of long pending Irrigation Projects worth Rs 3500 crore, Special Financial Aid for the Border belts of Punjab, to match the rates of crops with Price Index besides getting Special Industrial Package for Punjab on the pattern of neighboring states. Accusing Captain for his meager demand of Rs 100 bonus on wheat, Majithia said that Shiromani Akali Dal had been demanding implementation of recommendations of Swaminathan Commission, linking MSP of Agriculture produce with cost of agriculture inputs but congress party to protect the interests of multinational companies was scuttling its proposal. Majithia said that the Union Government should also waive the Rs 35000 crore debt on the farmers of Punjab, keeping in view their unparalleled contribution in country’s food security. Strongly condemning the Punjab Congress demand of CBI (Congress Bureau of Investigation) probe in alleged vendetta cases, Majithia said that Congress Party has been misleading the people of Punjab by alleging vendetta cases since last five years but failed to produce the a list of such cases. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal asked the congress leadership on numerous occasions to make public such list but they never released or submit such list. Majithia said that the allegations of Congress Party expressing misuse of central funds was the result of party’s frustration due to its defeat in recently held assembly polls. He said that Congress leader demand for Special Economic Package has nothing new as Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had always urged the Congress led UPA Government to give Punjab its rightful due as the state has always made a significant contribution in the overall development of the nation.
