The Punjab Government has decided to get their doctors trained in technically advanced medical institutions like PGI Chandigarh and TATA Memorial Mumbai.A decision to this effect was taken today by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during 29th meeting of Governing Body of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Society Jalandhar held under his chairmanship here. Badal asked the Medical Education and Research department to tie-up with renowned medical institutions in the country equipped with advanced technology in medical science to train our doctors through short term orientation courses.It was informed in the meeting that the on-going construction work of boundary wall, landscaping installation of furniture and equipment in PIMS Hospital and Medical College complex at Jalandhar, had been completed. While reviewing the status of the various approved projects which were initiated by PIMS society in Government Medical Colleges of the state, Badal approved to sanction Rs. 10 crore for the up-gradation and strengthening of Radiotherapy unit in Government Medical College Amritsar, Rs. 20 crore for setting up of comprehensive Cancer diagnostic Treatment Centre at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. It was also approved in the meeting that PIMS Society would release Rs. 25 Crore to health department for the construction of five de-addiction Centers in the state.Prominent amongst those who were present in the meeting included Medical Education Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal, Chief Parliamentary secretary Mrs. Mohinder Kaur Josh, Advocate General Punjab Ashok Aggarwal, Principal Secretary Finance Satish Chandra, Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister KJS Cheema, Secretary Medical Education Mrs. Anjali Bhawara, Techical Advisor General (Retd.) B.S. Dhaliwal, Director Medical Education Dr. Jai Kishan, Principal Government Medical College-cum-Director PIMS Dr. K.D. Singh, Vice Chancellor Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Dr. S.S.Gill, Prof. K.S. Chugh, Prof. S.B.S. Maan and other senior officers of the Punjab Government.
