Three policemen, including the officer-in-charge of a police station in West Bengal, were injured Friday when assailants hurled bombs at them. The incident took place in Birbhum district's Panrui when a police team led by officer-in-charge Prasenjit Dutta raided a hideout in the area where crude bombs were allegedly stored."We were attacked with bombs, sticks and bricks by the villagers," said Dutta, who sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital. The attack came over a month after workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress led by Birbhum Youth Trinamool Congress president Sudipta Ghosh allegedly roughed up an officer inside the Bolpur police station in the district.

The incident has acquired political colour with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool blaming each other for the incident."Such attacks are inevitable when leaders from the ruling party ask partymen to bomb police. What more can you expect, this government has handed the administration to the goons who are now running the show," state BJP president Rahul Sinha said.Sinha was referring to Birbhum Trinamool president Anubrata Mondal, notorious for making hate speeches, including exhorting partymen to attack police.Rubbishing Sinha's charges, Mondal claimed the BJP was behind the attack as the attackers were activists of the saffron party.
