Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed AliGeelani on Friday termed Modi’s relief package to the flood hit Kashmir as a ‘cruel joke’, urging upon world community and Organization of Islamic Conference(OIC)to play vital role in rebuilding flood ravaged Kashmir on humanitarian grounds. The Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said that the relief package of Rs 570 crore announced by Modi during his Kashmir visit would not mitigate even two percent of the total loss caused due tothe catastrophic floods of September and that if the stagnation continues to dominate the scene, Kashmir would not be rebuilt in two decades and starvation would engulf the scene.“The visit of Modi at Siachen was the real purpose of Modi’s visit to JK and the earlier announcement was a gimmick to dodge the world community. He (Modi) came here to boost the morale of his forces who have forcefully occupied Kashmir and have crushed the dissent of the people of Kashmir,” said Geelani.

The senior separatist leader maintained that September’s ravaging floods crushed the back bone of Kashmir’s economy and left behind the trail of devastating in agriculture and horticulture. “Around 90 thousand crore is the damage assessmentand we have reports that scores of businessmen suffered immense loses worth crores of rupees during the devastation.”Geelani asserted that the claims made over the compensation of the losses turned out to be a mere ‘hoax’ and the relief package announced by Modi would not even mitigate the losses of Lal Chowk shopkeepers.“The policy being adopted by New Delhi has vindicated the stand of the resistance camp that New Delhi is hell bent to crush Kashmir economically and wants its people to starve and remain dependant so that the ongoing movement could be weakened.

”Geelani maintained that lion’s share of thepackage announced by Modi will be received by the forces while as the flood victims would be deprive at large. He added that the worst devastation caused by the flooded could be only mitigated by the international aid and that same is the only way out to come out of the crises.“If the blockade of International aid continues by GOI, it would be fraught with the dangerous consequences and people here will be worst affected in the coming days,” Geelani added. The Hurriyat (G) chairman added that since GoI has adopted a ‘prejudiced’ mindset towards the people of Kashmir and their sufferings, the international community must persuade GoI so that relief could reach out to the flood torn people of the troubled land.
