Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved a comprehensive plan of Rs. 122 crore, for the over all development of Government Medical College (GMC) and Rajindra Hospital Patiala. A decision to this effect was taken by Badal during a high level meeting with the officers of Medical Education & Research department and the senior doctors of GMC and Rajindra Hospital Patiala held here to review the recommendations of the committee that was recently constituted by the Badal for revamping of GMC and Rajindra Hospital. Sanctioning Rs. 30 crore for year 2012-13 to initiate this prestigious project in a phased manner, Badal said that this hospital would be developed as a state-of-the-art medical institution in the region. He asked the officers to fix the priorities for the up-gradation work to ensure effective and substantial development for providing best health care facilities for the patients. It was informed in the meeting that recently started Cancer Cure Center at Rajindra Hospital which was equipped with Rs. 3 crore simulator and Rs. 28 lac mammography machine, was effectively working for the treatment of the cancer and covers a large area of near by districts of Patiala. The Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital has registered a society with the name 'Rogi Kalyan Society' for charity. To improve the functioning of the Institution, Hospital Welfare Committee and Academic committee were also constituted. Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion included, Chairman Board of Governance of Indian Medical Council Dr. KK Talwar, Secretary Medical Education and Research Anjali Bhawra, Principal Government Medical College Patiala Dr. KD Singh, Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister KJS Cheema, Director Medical Research and Education Dr. Jai Kishan besides, Dr. RL Mittal, Dr. Sudhir Verma, Dr. Harjot Kaur Bagga and Dr. Avnish Kumar.
