Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today offered to allot 20 acres of land somewhere near Chandigarh to the star cricketer Yuvraj Singh for setting up of a world class sports academy. Yuvraj Singh accompanied by his mother Shabnam Singh today called on Badal at his residence this morning. Badal enquired about his well being and wished him speedy recovery and best of health. Badal highly appreciated the proposal put forth by Yuvraj Singh to establish state-of-the-art sports academy near Chandigarh to impart training to the budding players in cricket, hockey, golf and tennis besides boarding and lodging facilities for the players. The Chief Minister asked his Principal Secretary to finalize the modalities for the allotment of requisite land. Badal apprised Yuvraj Singh that the state government had already set up a sports school at Ghudha in Bathinda district to impart quality education and sports training to our youth to enable them to exhibit their talent at national as well as international tournaments. Badal further said that the Punjab was the first state to formulate its sports policy to honour the eminent sports persons who have excelled in national as well as international championships by offering them government jobs besides giving handsome prize money. Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Principal Secretary to Chief Minister SK Sandhu, Political Secretary to Chief Minister Major Bhupinder Singh, Special Principal Secretaries to Chief Minister KJS Cheema and Gaggandip Singh Brar.
