Continuing with its drive of ensuring that people get quality medicines, a team of officers of Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) today conducted a surprise check of drug sale establishments in various areas of Srinagar city which include Qamarwari, Bemina, Batmallo, Maisuma, Dalgate, Indra Nagar, Khanyar, Munawarabad, Gousia hospital, Sonawar and Batwara.During the drive 33 establishments (Retail/wholesale) were checked. Licenses of 02 shops namely M/s Zahoor Medicate, Dalgate, and M/s R. Q. Pharmacy Khanyar Srinagar were suspended.

Medicines worth Rs. 9,000/- mostly those which were contaminated by the flood water were confiscated on spot. The exercise has been necessitated at the behest of inputs that certain vendors are indulging in sale of flood hit medicines to the end users which in all likelihood is bound to pose serious health risks to the consumers.The stakeholders in general and consumer in particular have been impressed upon to share their inputs about such incidents to the concerned regularity authorities at district head quarters
