Two-days Training Programme for Science Teachers on Modern Scientific Tools

A two days training programme on “Faculty Training and Motivation Programme for Science Teachers” commenced today at CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology.  The objective of the programme is to promote excellence in science education in schools by upgrading knowledgebase of teachers in new and emerging areas of science. During the programme teachers will get a glimpse of research capabilities and on- going activities of the institute. In addition, special demonstrations have been arranged in labs and hands-on trainings will be provided in plant tissue culture, DNA finger printing, microbiology, isolation and characterization of natural compounds, nanotechnology, analytical techniques etc. The programme will provide a unique opportunity for intense interaction and exchange of ideas between teachers and scientists. Nineteen science teachers form different Govt. and private schools of Palampur and nearby areas are actively participating in the programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Acting Director of the Institute, Dr. Anil Sood. He encouraged the teachers to visit the institute along with school children such that scientific instincts are fostered from an early stage. He mentioned that institute has best of the research facilities and children of the region must be made exposed to research environment for developing scientific temperament. Dr. Sood also apprised the participants about intellectual Property Rights.Teachers showed great interest in learning new concepts and enthusiastically participated in practicals. The programme will conclude by awarding certificate of participation to the teachers.
