The victims of Jammu and Kashmir flood hit areas need help of every kind, instead of sympathy. They are in utmost need of medical care wherein the elderly, children and expecting mothers are caught in worst flood ravaged state witnessed in past 60 years, said the chairman of Gian Sagar medical College and Hospital, Banur, Dr Barjinder Singh, whose team has returned after spending eight days in various pockets of the J & K.Lending a helping hand to the people in distress providing them all possible medical help, the teams of Gian Sagar Medical College examined 11260 patients, gave 14 lacs medicines and 4500 vaccines. Reminiscing instances wherein immediate help was provided to the patients as a life saving measure, Ms. Natasha Chopra (GM Community Outreach) said that in one of the remote villages of state, the team came across a 98 years old female who was bed ridden and was covered with bed sores. “Her children could not go to fetch doctors due to rising waters. We not only administered her medicines but proper nursing care too was provided by guiding the family members,” he said.
Under the first phase team of doctors including Dr. Ankit Dwivedi, Avinash Singh and Ajit Kumar went by road from Gian Sagar to Jammu along with vaccines worth 5 lakhs on September 21. Thereafter on September 22 they flew from Jammu to Srinagar along with 50kgs vaccines. These relief vaccines included 500 Hepatitis A vaccines and 1500 typhoid vaccines. These vaccines were given to Principal Government Dental College - Jammu Dr. Riyaz Farooq and the team returned on Sep 23.In the second phase – in collaboration with Rotary Club Ropar the team from Gian Sagar including Dr. Ankit Dwivedi, Dr. Shaifu Pulani, Dr. Abhitesh Singh, Dr. Ripudaman Singh, Ajit, Deepak Sharma, Sukhwant and Bhupinder. From October 2 to October 8 the Gian Sagar’s team held medical camps in areas of Chiralipur, Chhatabal, Jawahar Nagar, Bhatwara (Badami Bagh), Azad Basti, Raina Wala, Harnambal, Natipur and Gulshan Nagar. Besides medicines and vaccines, the team distributed 4 lacs chlorine tabs, 15000 masks and 2500 gloves.Dr Barjinder added that the people required medical attention for problems like fever, pains, fungal infection, thyroid problems, acidity, diabetes, asthma, stomach infection, skin infection, cough etc.
