Delay in relief distribution: Victims protest in Lal Chowk

With anger brewing over the delay in relief measures, flood victims Wednesday took to streets, blocking roads and suspending vehicular movement in City Center Lal Chowk.Aghast over the inordinate delay in mitigating the sufferings of the flood victims hailing from Maisuma and Banant Bagh area, protesters which included women and children blocked vehicular movement near fly over in Lal Chowk. Wooden blocks were placed in the middle of the roads with tyres being torched.The protesters raising slogans against the state government accused that the houses in the entire locality of Maisuma and Basant bagh have been damaged posing serious threat to their lives. They alleged the state government has turned blind eye towards their plight as not even a single official so far bothered to visit the affected areas.While trying to clear the road blocks, police later had to resort to baton charge to disperse the angry mob. Incidents of stone pelting were witnessed in the area with police fire tear smoke shells in air to pacify the protests. (KNS)
