Valley’s flood victims whose houses were damaged in the catastrophic floods while questioning BJP’s memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s for rebuilding the residential structures damaged due to the recent cross LOC firing at Jammu, saying the promises made by GOI for flood victims in valley are yet to be fulfilled.Jammu and Kashmir BJP on October 10 submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a clutch of demands, including Rs five lakh ex-gratia payment for the kin of those killed in Pakistan firing and construction of safe shelter camps for border migrants.
"We sought an immediate action by the Prime Minister on few proposals, which include enhancement of ex-gratia payment to Rs five lakh from Rs one Lakh, construction of safe shelter camps for border migrants, incentive for border area residents, comprehensive insurance scheme and special recruitment drive for border youth," BJP state chief and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma said.Expressing serious concern over what they termed the ‘inordinate’ delay into the dispensation of the interim relief to the flood hit people; victims have said that the government has turned blind-eye towards their plight- making them to spend days and nights in the chilling cold.
Scores of flood hit people from various areas have told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that they still have no shelter and along with their families including women and children, people are biting autumn’s chilling cold in tents. “We wonder, why they is this much of delay being exhibited by the authorities despite the fact that world has admitted the intensity of the recent catastrophe. The delay in compensating the loses is multiplying people’s agony,” said Ghulam Qadir Lone., a Qamarwari resident.Lone, whose two story house was damaged during floods, is at present staying with his relatives. He said that his old parents and children are bearing the tough time as the government is yet to take any final call over the rehabilitation process.
The business community in the summer capital were also dismayed over the dismal performance displayed by the government in compensating the loses. They maintained that the authorities have so far failed to fight for the genuine cases before GOI as the compensation is yet to be disbursed to the affected. “The government itself admitted in the past that business community in Kashmir has suffered from more than 70 thousand lakh rupees due to the floods. Unfortunately, the helmsmen are yet to take any action in this regard,” said Yasir Ahmad- an upper town resident. (KNS)
