Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ and we should sincerely be committed for keeping our environs clean, said Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh while speaking after awarding the Rogna Yuvak Mandal for the initiatives taken to preserve the environment at the Zila Parishad Bhawan , Kullu today.He said that cleanliness drives be undertaken right from Panchayat levels and it should be made a routine affair instead of single day affair. He said Gram Panchayats should take up the responsibility for keeping the Panchayats clean. He appealed to the people throughout the State to participate in the cleanliness drives and help making the environment a better place to stay.
He said that the elected bodies, whether it was Panchayat Samiti, Zila Parishad or Vidhan Sabha, play an important role in a democratic set up where every citizen has the right to raise their voice. He said that there were very few countries in the world where the representatives were elected in a democratic manner.
“The power should not be used to settle political scores but the elected representatives should focus on the welfare of the people”, said he adding that it was only by serving the people, irrespective of their status, one can be a true National hero.
He said that the demands of the Zila Parishad would be looked into and asked the Chairman Zila Parishad Shri Hari Chand Sharma to convey the demands to the concerned Minister.Earlier, Chairman Zila Parishad welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister and former Member of Parliament and Chairperson State Hospital Welfare section, Smt. Pratibha Singh on the occasion.Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Shri Anil Sharma, the panchayat representatives and members of the Zila Parishad were present on the occasion.
