Govt. in process of distributing compensation in south Kashmir: Tanveer

‘509 Truckloads of relief distributed since Sep 12’

After completing the damage assessments in south Kashmir, the state Government is in the process of releasing compensation to the flood victims, said Tanveer Sadiq, Political secretary to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.“All the deputy commissioners in south Kashmir have been directed to start releasing the first installment of compensation in favor of flood victims in south Kashmir,” Sadiq told KNS.He said that since September 12 the government has distributed 509 truckloads of relief material which includes water , ration and medicines. Sadiq said that dewatering pumps have been installed at various places in Srinagar city and the authorities are trying their best to dewater the inundated areas of the city as soon as possible.

Sadiq said that a huge pump used by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) with a dewatering capacity of 5000 liters per minute has been installed at Rajbagh to bring the area back on rails. He said that all the water filtration plants in the city are operational and 90 percent of the main roads are through.Sadiq said that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chairs two high powered meetings a day one in the morning at 9 am and another in the evening at 7 pm. “The Chief Minister is himself monitoring the whole rescue and relief operation and gives instructions to the officers after reviewing the progress each day,” Sadiq told KNS.

He said that presently few places like Rajbagh, Secretriate, Bemina and TRC are still suffering from water logging and the authorities are on the job of dewatering these areas as quickly as possible.Sadiq said that electricity has been restored almost in all the areas across Kashmir and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation is on toes to clear the garbage and debris from the flood hit areas of the city. He said that all the branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank are operating without any hassles. (KNS)
