Chandigarh , 14 Sep 2014

Hindu religious groups have started raking up the issue of Gau Hatya aggressively in various cities of Punjab. “Gau Bhakts” gathered in large numbers in Chandigarh on Sunday and demanded capital punishment for those who indulge in cow slaughter. Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch, an organisation at the helm of the ongoing countrywide agitation against cow slaughter organized a “Gauvardhan” rally at exhibition ground at sector 34 Chandigarh, to press for its demand that cow should be accorded the status of “Rashtra Mata” so that cow slaughter can be stopped in the country. On Saturday towns of Sangrur, Moga, Nihal Singh Wala and Ahmednagar saw a complete Bandh due to the call given by Hindu religious organizations protesting against the recovery of a few carcasses (said to be of cows) in Malerkotla on September 10. Hindu organizations like Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad also blocked Delhi-Ludhiana Shatabdi Express for about 8 minutes at the Sangrur railway station.

Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch has put forward five demands before the government. Besides the demand of capital punishment for cow slaughter today at Chandigarh, Revered “Gopal Mani Ji Maharaj of Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch, demanded the ban on the import of Jersy Cows, free cow milk to all children up to the age of 10 years and grazing land from government for people involved in cow welfare. Cow should be accorded the status of “Rashtra Mata” and as cow is not treated as an animal in our country, government should form a new ministry to look into the welfare and the various social and economic aspects related to cows. He also demanded that we should use bio gas generated by cow dung in our kitchens and also for energizing vehicles instead of CNG. He said we should ban the usage of chemical fertilizers and only allow cow dung fertilizer, as chemical fertilizers have poisoned our fertile land and affected the health of our people badly.

This will be the third rally in the ongoing agitation of Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch. A massive protest against cow slaughter was organised by thousands of “Gau Bhakts” on 23rd Februray 2014, at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi and later on 7th Sep 2014 in Raipur under the auspices of Gopal Mani Ji Maharaj. The Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch has decided to spread this agitation throughout the country by staging similar protests in most of the major cities and to press for its demands.  The next protest will be organised on 21st Sep 2014 at Dehradun.Of all beings, the cow is treated as the most sacred and sanctified in India. This sense of the unique sacredness of the cow is expressed in the works of ancient Indian Rishis (like in the Vedas etc.) as well as in later literature and folklore. The Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch was formed to find ways of restoring the purity, health and wellbeing of cows in India, to look highlight the economic contribution of the cow through calves, milk, cow-dung, cow-urine and other minute but more widespread contribution to Indian society and economy. And the final, but somewhat unstated aim is to soon bring about the complete stoppage of the ill-treatment and slaughter of the cow and its progeny.
