The Punjab Cabinet gave approval to establish and incorporate a private university named Chandigarh University to be run and managed by the Chandigarh Educational Trust at Gharuan in district SAS Nagar (Mohali). Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s office said that a decision to this effect was taken in a Cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of Parkash Singh Badal here at CMO this morning. This university would be self financed and not be entitled to receive any grant or other financial assistance from the state government. The objective of the university would be to provide for instructions, teaching, education, research and training in all levels in all disciplines of education including professional, medical, technical, higher, general education and on other streams and subjects as per the needs of the industry and the society in general, as may be deemed necessary by the university through all modes of education as may emerge or become relevant in future, besides promoting studies to provide for research in Punjabi language and literature and to undertake means for the development of Punjabi language, literature and culture.
