As the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) recommended its candidates for upcoming assembly election on Monday evening; the Congress Screening Committee (CSC) is scheduled to meet in New Delhi on August 28-29 to evolve a consensus on the list of probable forwarded to it by the PCC. Taking to KNS, Prof Saifuddin Soz, president PCC said: “Yes the screening committee meeting chaired by Congress senior leader Ajay Maken is likely to take place on August 28 or August 29. The list of probable candidates forwarded to it will be discussed threadbare.”Soz said that once the screening committee meeting will finalize the list of candidates, the same will be forwarded to Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi for her approval. “There is enough of time till upcoming elections. And the list of Congress candidates will be issued at an appropriate time,” Soz informed.
Sources in the Congress told KNS that the list forwarded to the screening committee comprise of all assembly segments except for the three constituencies presently represented by Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Hakeem Yasin and Ghulam Hassan Mir.“There are assembly segments where the PCC has forwarded multiple names. And there are constituencies where the PCC has recommended only one name,” top sources in the PCC told KNS. The Monday’s PCC election committee meeting was chaired by Prof Saifuddin Soz and attended by former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. (KNS)
