Congress meeting:Azad, Soz ask party members to be people friendly

Congress party Monday held a meeting in Srinagar that was attended by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, State Congress president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and incumbent State Congress Ministers and Member of Legislative Councils. Several other senior leaders also participated in the meeting in which according to sources suggestions and advices were sought from members regard the coming Assembly elections in the state.Sources told CNS that Democratic Party Nationalist Chairman and Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hasan Mir also participated in the meeting, however Mir refuted the reports and told CNS that he had gone to venue to meeting some of his personal friends.Party sources told CNS that leaders discussed about the strategy that party is going to adopt in coming Assembly elections while State Congress president urged upon the leaders to be in close touch with the common people. 

Sources added that all the data regarding the poor performance in recently concluded Parliament elections was elected and way and means were suggested to improve the performance in coming Assembly elections.“I was asked to suggest a probable candidate for our constituency who would be given mandate in the coming Assembly elections and I proposed few names. Similarly, other leaders did the same. Ultimately it would the Congress High Command which will chalk out the final list of candidates,” a senior Congress leader on condition of anonymity told CNS.

Sources said that all the date collected will be presented before the Congress High Command in coming days.A party leader who was part of the meeting said that Ghulam Nabi Azad asked leaders to prepare themselves for the coming polls. “At least 25 senior leaders participated in the meeting while scores of other leaders waited outside. These leaders were also called in the meeting and their suggestions were also sought with regard to the coming Assembly elections,” a Congress leader said.He added that no discussion about the remarks about JK having a Hindu Chief Minister made by Sham Lal Sharma took place. ‘The issues discussed during the meeting were all related to Assembly elections,’ he said adding that soon after the culmination of the meeting former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi left for New Delhi.
