Thousands of people living in south Kashmir’s Anantnag areas like Kadipora, S.K.Colony and Sarnal are facing acute water scarcity for the past one month as the taps are running dry. Locals told CNS that Bumzoo Mattan filtration plant, which feeds millions of Gallons per Day (MGD) to the town hasn’t been able to maintain the supplies. “We are facing a tough time and gasping for water supply. There is no water and our women folk have to cover long distance to fetch water from other areas,” Jameela Bano told CNS adding that the scene is same in every neighborhood home. People said it was “highly irresponsible on the part of the concerned to have slept over water scarcity.” “How can the water supply be kept off for two days?” asked a Kadipora resident. They threatened to launch an agitation against the PHE department if the water supply was not immediately restored.AEE PHE, Anantnag when contacted told CNS that the town will continue to face water shortage till the new water supply plant at Bumzo, Mattan is made operational.
