We must judiciously tap into our natural resources and not mindlessly exploit them. This was stated by Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Minister of Mines, Steel and Labour & Employment in his address at the 48th Annual General Meeting of Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) held in New Delhi yesterdayyesterday. The Minister while underscoring the need for mining, remarked that the companies have to take care of environmental issues as well.

The negative perception about mining has to be collectively countered by the industry. The industry will have to prove its credentials by doing exemplary work and highlighting the past achievements, he added. He exhorted the industry leaders to adopt best international practices for the revival of the industry. Shri Tomar assured that the new government under the leadership of Shri Modi will take all the necessary measures to help revive the industry. The Minister applauded the good work done by FIMI in bringing out the issues faced by the industry to the notice of the government and also suggesting remedial measures based on experience and expertise of its members.
