Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh inaugurated Blood Donation Camp at Rajiv Bhawan here today to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Shri Rajiv Gandhi. Addressing a huge gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that former Prime Minister late Shri Rajiv Gandhi was a visionary leader under whose dynamic leadership the country made rapid progress in various spheres. He said that Shri Rajiv Gandhi was instrumental in lowering the voting age to 18 years thus giving a right to franchise to the youth of the country. He was a youth icon who gave new direction to the pace of development to the country and introduced information technology as he firmly believed that India could emerge as world power only after progressing in this field.
Shri Virbhadra Singh congratulated National Students Union of India (NSUI) for winning the maximum seats in recent Student Central Association (SCA) elections in the State. He said that this victory was due to efforts of NSUI and expressed hope that the organization would perform even better in future.More than 100 persons donated blood on the occasion. Chief Minister congratulated the blood donors and said that the blood collected would help in saving many precious lives.
State Congress President Shri Sukhvinder Singh Thakur said that late Shri Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister of the Country who channelized the youth energy for the development of the Nation. He said that apart from State Headquarter such blood donation camps were also organized at district and block level in the State.
