CM Announces Remission For Prisoners On Independence Day

As a goodwill gesture towards the inmates undergoing imprisonment in different jails, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today announced to grant remission of sentence from one year to two months on August 15, 2013 on the occasion of Independence Day to the inmates who have been convicted by the criminal courts in the state.  

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the remission of one year would be granted to the prisoners who had been awarded imprisonment from 10 to 20 years.  Likewise remission of 9 months who had imprisoned for 7 to 10 years, 6 months in case of 5 to 7 years, 3 months to the prisoners who had been sentenced for a jail term of 3 to 5 years and 2 months to the prisoners with less than 3 years on the Independence Day. 

The above remission would be granted only to those prisoners who were confined in jail on August 15, 2013 and in case of person who has been sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 10 years or the good conduct of the person for the last five years would be taken into consideration. However, the remission would not be granted to a person convicted in heinous crimes.
