Late night clashes in Tulmula,Authorities impose restrictions

The late night protests allegedly instigated by a local Imam forced authorities to impose restrictions in Central Kashmir’s Tulamula area of District Ganderbal. The clashes between government forces and protestors left at least 12 persons injured including some cops. A police official said that the situation was under control after the police saved a government employee from the wrath of people. The government employee was caught by people red handed allegedly with a female on Friday in Zonal Education Office despite a public holiday. Police arrested the accused and managed to pacify the protestors after some law and order problem.Reports said that during late night hours a local Imam alleged accused police of shielding the culprit. The remarks of local Imam allegedly provoked youth who resorted to violence and attacked police and CRPF personnel with stones.

Reports said that during the clashes at least 12 persons including some cops were injured. Locals alleged that some policemen thrashed local Imam that created trouble in the area. Police according to reports arrested four persons for their alleged role in violence and stone-pelting. Addition SP Ganderbal Mr Param Vir told CNS that it was local Imam Abdul Hamid Yousuf who instigated people for violence. This Imam was telling people on loud speaker that police has no right to punish the guilty (accused) as it is the job of people to punish him under Sharia. “Police exercised maximum restraint while dealing with the violent protestors,” he said.Authorities imposed restrictions in the area to bring the situation under control. A police official said that situation in the area is under control and people are being allowed to move freely. (CNS)
