The Khan family of North Kashmir’s Sopore town Thursday claimed that the recent killings of two family members of Congress Block President Khazar Naikoo was revenge killing as the Naikoo family according to them helped government forces to get a militant killed in the backyard of their house.Staging a massive protest in Press Enclave Srinagar the Khan family of Mundji Sopore accused that police is harassing them without any reason. “After third degree torture, police freed my son Mehraj-u-Din Khan when they found him innocent. My son has not killed any member of the Naikoo family,” Sardar Khan told CNS.

Pertinently, unidentified gunmen on June 20 barged into the house of Congress Block president Khazar Naikoo and killed his son Nazir Naikoo. In the attack, the cousin of deceased, Dentist Shabir Maqbool Naikoo, was also injured who later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Soon after the incident Khazar Naikoo claimed that he identified one Mehraj Ahmed Khan fleeing from the spot after killing the duo. Police accordingly arrested Mehraj and his other family members for thorough questioning. However, it freed Mehraj after proven not-guilty.Scores of supporters of Mehraj Ahmed during protest demonstration alleged that despite freeing Mehraj, the police is harassing him and his family members on the one or the other pretext. “Naikoo family protests and we felt the burnt of that protest as police locks up all in the prison. We don’t carry any mobile phone with us as all have been seized by police,” a protestor said.

The protestors said that the two family members of Naikoo family were possibly killed by militants as this family helped government forces to eliminate one of the oldest surviving militant Muhammad Shafi Sheikh.“Khazar Naikoo claims that he saw my son Mehraj fleeing from the yard soon after the incident. Is it possible that a man will dare to gaze through his window at a time when somebody is spraying bullets on the house,” the Khan family head said adding that they have nothing to do with the killing of Naikoo members and under a well planned manner Khazar Naiko is trying to implicate us in this false case.
