An army soldier was killed in a grenade blast at Gurez sector in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Official sources told GNS that a patrolling party of army’s 36 RR who were conducting searches following the suspected movement in the Gurez sector near Line of Control (LoC) since last couple of days.“Last night as the combing operation to flush out the militants in the area was intensified, a live grenade suddenly slipped from one of the army man which exploded”, sources said.They said that in the blast the army personnel, sepoy Harjinder Singh sustained critical splinter injuries and was immediately airlifted to army’s hospital here in Srinagar for treatment. However, Singh succumbed to injuries before reaching the hospital.Pertinently, Army on July 18 had claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid near Line of Control (LoC) in the same sector. (GNS)
