Six policemen including Station House Officer (SHO), part of special squad from Poonch district were injured after youth attacked them with stones here in Srinagar city. Besides, two accused who were arrested by the team for their alleged involvement in a mine blast last month Saturday escaped following the stone hurling incident.Official sources told GNS that a police team led by SHO Police Station Gursai, Poonch district arrived here in Kashmir for some arrests in connection with a case FIR (no. 46/2014 under section 7/27 IA Act) registered on June 25 this year.“The police team who had already arrested a person Irfan Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Qayoom Khan, a resident of Dhargloon, Mendhar last week, today on his disclosure, raided at Batmaloo here in Srinagar.

“During the raid the police team arrested one of the accused Abdul Majeed Ganie of Kupwara at present Batmaloo”, sources said, adding that later the team returned back towards Poonch.The police team who were travelling in a Scorpio (JK12-4453/ White Colour) passed through Maisuma-Barbar Shah-Dalgate road.“On reaching Munawerabad near HDFC bank, the accused Abdul Majeed shouted, save me, save me, from these unknown persons. In the meantime, scores of persons mostly youth assembled and smashed the vehicle by pelting stones at the vehicle,” they said.All the six policemen who were in civvies received injuries in the incident, sources said.They identified the injured cops as Inspector of Police, SHO, P/S Gursai Sadakat Hussain Qureshi, HC Nisar Khan, HC Naveel Khan, Constable Mohammad Sikander, Constable Mohammad Asrar and SPO Shakeel Ahmad.

Meanwhile, the two accused Abdul Majeed and Irfan Khan while taking advantage of stone pelting in the area managed to escape, sources said.Soon after the incident, police party Khanyar rushed to the spot and taken the injured cops to nearby hospital for treatment, sources said, adding that the Scorpio was also taken to Khanyar police station.Meanwhile, police have registered a case and has started further investigations in this regard.Superintendent of Police, City North, Tahir Saleem confirmed to GNS that six cops were injured in the incident and two accused escaped.

Pertinently, the blast had occurred at Balakote on June 25 in which the building belonged to revenue department (Naib Tehsildar) got completely damaged.Sources said that Irfan Khan had told cops during interrogation that he had purchased the IED from Abdul Majeed against Rs 60000 before carrying blast in Poonch.Following the blast, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Poonch-Rajouri Range, Ashok Kumar had constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) which includes Additional SP Poonch, Amit Gupta, DSP Operations Poonch Javeed Naz, SDPO Mendhar Surendar Chowdary and SHO Gursai Sadat Hussain Qureshi.
