Punjab Government directs colleges to exempt admission fee from schedule caste students : Gulzar Singh Ranike

Punjab goverment has directed all the colleges/institutions not to take admission fee from all those students who are eligible for scholarship under post Matric Scholarship Scheme from schedule caste students.Disclosing this here today Welfare Minister S. Gulzar Singh Ranike said that payment  would be made by the government directly to the colleges. He said that parents’ having annual income of 2.50 lakh would be eligible to get these scholarships.  He said that 2.64 lakh students of 2000 institutions were being given scholarship for the year 2012-13 from out of the sanctioned amount of non-refundable fees. He also said that Rs. 31.75 crore has also been released during the year 2013-14 for this purpose. He said that maintenance allowance will not be included in the fee.He further said that the scheme would prove to be beneficial for the students going for Diploma Certificate, Degree courses, Professional Courses. The Minister has directed the Secretary and Director of Welfare Department to issue instructions to the  educational institutions immediately not to take fee from SC students at the time of admission.
