Fierce encounter rages in Handwara, 1 militant killed

A militant was killed in an ongoing encounter at Handwara area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday.Official sources told GNS that acting on a specific information about the presence of 4-5 militants at Hamla Pati in Handwara in the district, the joint team of army’s 21 RR and SOG cordoned off the whole area.As such the joint team intensified the searches, the militants hiding in the area tried to break the cordoned and opened heavy fire upon the forces, sources said, adding that the fire was retaliated ensuing a fierce gun battle.They said that one militant has been killed during the gunfight and the exchange of fire is still going on in the area.
