The Punjab government today offered three alternative sites of 200 acre each in Kapurthala district for setting up of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) like institute to provide the best healthcare and medical facilities to the people in the region.This decision was taken by the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a meeting with the senior officers of the state government here at Chief Minister’s Office this afternoon.The Chief Minister asked the Principal Secretary Health to immediately send a detailed letter informing the Ministry of Health, GoI about the proposed sites for the construction of AIIMS like institute as identified by the district administration Kapurthala.  Mr. Badal also directed the Principal Secretary Health to request the Ministry of Health GoI to immediately send its team to visit these sites for the finalization of the land for this purpose. 

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala apprised Mr. Badal about the three proposed sites in the district by showing him the site plans and he assured that the possession of the land would be handed over to the Ministry immediately after getting its nod for the selection of the site.It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had personally met Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan at Delhi recently to urge him to establish AIIMS like institute in Punjab under the GoI scheme.Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Chief Secretary Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. SK Sandhu, Principal Secretary Health Mrs. Vini Mahajan,  Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Gaggandip Singh Brar, besides Mr. DS Mangat, Mr. Kamal Kishore Yadav and Rajat Aggarwal of the Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala, Jalandhar and Ludhiana respectively.
