Health Minister Directs Department To Gear Up To Prevent Outbreak Of Vector Borne Diseases

The Punjab Health department has directed all the civil surgeons of the state to take all necessary steps to prevent breeding of the mosquitoes in their vicinity to tackle Vector Borne Diseases.   Disclosing this here today Surjeet Kumar Jayani said that health officials were directed to pull up their socks to make all necessary arrangements to contain the transmission of Vector Borne Diseases like Malaria and Dengue. He said that the officials have been instructed to coordinate with the Municipal Corporations, Water Supply and Sewerage Board Department and other concerned departments to prevent the outbreak of these diseases.The Minister said that the officers were directed to launch a special awareness drive regarding prevention of mosquitoes breeding of curtail cases of Malaria and Dengue. 

He said that department has sufficient supply/stock of insecticide sprays available to limit mosquito population and has instructed to spray insecticides on the pits filled with water and prevent stagnating of water in surroundings areas and appealed to the Public maintenance and upkeep of water coolers to prevent such diseases from spreading. Minister has directed the department to keep teams ready at all government hospitals and health centres across the the state.‘Health Department has adequate dengue testing kits available free of cost to address the suspected cases at Government Hospitals as well as medicines to be provided to all. The Civil Surgeons have been instructed to ensure that all cases of fever reported are tested free of cost and treated in case of malaria detected’, said Jayani.Vini Mahajan Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare elaborating the preparedness of the health department said that strict instructions have been issued to all district level officers to personally inspect the arrangements made in their areas to prevent Vector Borne diseases. She said that the health officials must also make a comprehensive plan in collaboration with other departments at the district and block level.
