The Punjab Government would hand over the keys of newly constructed 1600 flats/dwelling units to slum dwellers in Ludhiana before  August 15 and the possession of another lot of more than 3200 under construction flats would be given to slum dwellers by March 31, 2014.Disclosing this here today Mr. Chuni Lal Bhagat, Local Bodies Minister, Punjab said that the all the necessary formalities for allotting these flats have been completed and the keys would be handed to them before August 15. He said that Punjab Government was constructing a total 4832 new slum units in Ludhiana out of which 1600 are ready for living while the construction of remaining 3232 units were on the advanced stage of completion. He said that this project would be completed with the cost of Rs. 113.53 crore.  

Reviewing the status of ongoing construction of these dwelling units, Mr. Bhagat asked the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana to expedite the remaining construction works so the possession to the needy people could be provided before the given deadline. The Minister also asked the MC to ensure the quality work by using the quality material. The Minister also directed the officials of MC, Ludhiana to launch a repair drive, where needed, in old slum units for the facilitation of residents.Giving details about these flats, the Minister said that the single flat would be equipped with a state-of-the-art bedroom, living room, kitchen, toilet and bathroom. He said that 25.64 square meter area has been covered under this project.  Commissioner Ludhiana MC Mr. Rakesh Verma informed the Minister that out of 4832 slum units 2496 were constructed at Giaspura and 1200 at Mundian Kalan and 1136 at Dhandari Kalan.
