Punjab is set to be power cut free with the first unit of the 1980 MW Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd (TSPL) becoming operational and adding 660 MW to the national grid. Besides this, POWERCOM has already tied up power from all available sources to meet the anticipated demand of 10,000 MW (2200 LUs) per day during the month of June and July 2014.Disclosing this here today an official spokesman  said earlier the first unit of the 700 MW super-critical (2x700 MW) Rajpura thermal power plant had also became operational on trial bases. Besides that the third power project- GVK’s Goindwal plant will be operational very shortly as the coal supply issue have been resolved. It may be mentioned here that TSPL will provide cheapest power to the state for years to come. This largest and green power plant in the state has added more than 12 million units of power yesterday itself.

The spokesman said  Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also Power Minister, had already directed all the chief engineers to provide un-interrupted and good quality power supply to all categories of consumers. He said Mr Badal has also directed PSPCL Chairman K D Choudhari to set up round the clock single dedicated helpline from next week on the lines of 181 to redress the grievances of consumers. He also informed that, on the personal intervention of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the Union Ministry of Power had also acceded to the State's request and issued a notification asking Coal India Ltd to sign Fuel Supply Agreements (FSA) to include the Unit-1 of Talwandi Sabo TPP and Unit-1 of Rajpura TPP for 2013-14 besides Talwandi Sabo TPP unit-2 & 3 and Rajpura TPP Unit-2 for 2014-15. Earlier, the Union Power Ministry had not included fuel linkage and signing of FSA for Talwandi Sabo Unit-2 & 3 and Rajpura unit-2 in the year 2014-15 and had pushed them to 2015-16.

The spokesman said this additional power production would prove to be a landmark achievement at this crucial stage especially in the wake of ever increasing demand of power during the predicted monsoon deficit summer and paddy season.Adding further he said that PSPCL is fully geared up to provide regular and uninterrupted power supply to all categories of consumers during the paddy season. Regarding availability of Power, PSPCL has already tied up power from all available sources to meet the anticipated demand of 10,000 MW (2200 LUs) per day during the month of June and July 2014.He informed that in addition to state owned thermal and hydel plants, which were generating to its full capacity, Corporation has tied up short term power to the tune of 1315 MW for the month of June and 1350 MW for the month of July, 2014.
