Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal, met Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu today in New Delhi and discussed about various projects sanctioned to Punjab under JNNURM. During the meeting, Shri Badal drew the attention of the Urban Development Minister towards releases pending from the Government of India. The latter assured that releases would be made as soon as funds are received from the Finance Ministry. The Chief Minister also requested Shri Naidu to include Amritsar as one of the Smart Cities in the upcoming plan of Government of India. Shri Naidu assured Shri Badal that his request would be considered favourably.
Chattisgarh’s PWD Minister Rajesh Munat met Union Urban Development Minister who said that his Ministry is preparing a ‘smart city’ plan with avenues for employment, entertainment and education. The Union Urban Development Minister assured Sri Munat that New Raipur being a new capital city would be considered under this plan. The Karnataka delegation led by Urban Development Minister, Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake, met the Union Urban Development Minister and asked for additional funds under JNNURM for the state. He also sought additional funding for the modernization of the urban transportation. Shri Naidu assured him that the matter would receive due consideration.
