In a bid to streamline the transfer process, the Punjab Government has decided to accord certain relaxation to the teachers who would intend to get posting in Kandi, Bet, Waterlogged and Boarder Area. It was disclosed by Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister, Punjab in a press communiqué released here today.Cheema said that teachers who wanted to get transferred in areas having problem like water loggings, Kandhi, Bet and border areas would now get relaxation of not staying at least 3 years at one station. He said that this policy decision has been taken considering the demand of people living in these difficult areas of the state. He said that the strength of school faculty in these areas was 50 % less. He added that Punjab Government is keen to improve standards of education in these areas of the state.

The Education Minister further informed that keeping in view the alarming drop out ratio in government schools of three districts Bathinda, Mansa and Sri Muktsar Sahib, the department has ordered concerned DEOs of the districts to conduct detailed study to find out the reason for such high drop out ratio. The committee has been also suggesting improving the drop out ratio. It is pertinent to mention here that school drop out ratio in these three districts Bathinda, Mansa and Sri Muktsar Sahib is 8.59%, 8.57% and 9.75% respectively, far more than the average of state i.e. 5%.Dr. Cheema asked the committee consisting D.E.O’s (elementary and secondary education) to figure out the causes in a detailed report within one month. Apart from finding the reasons Education Minister asked committee to come out with recommendations to encourage students to join government schools. He concluded that SAD–BJP government is committed to improve elementary education and provide better infrastructure in governments of state.
