C.K. Tien, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India today called on Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and called for strengthening trade and industrial between Punjab and Taiwan. Tien informed Deputy CM that Taiwan has a strength in computer hardware industry, food processing industry and solar power and Taiwan and Punjab industrial entrepreneurs could work out joint ventures in these areas. Expressing the desire of Taiwan to set up their hi-tech hardware industry in Punjab, Mr. Tien said that an industrial delegation from Punjab could interact with Industrial entrepreneurs of Taiwan to work out mutual industrial arrangements. He said that Taiwan was visualizing Punjab as next Industrial hub as Punjab being third power surplus state with world class road and air connectivity, has the real potential of industrial growth. 

Inviting Taiwan to setup their industrial ventures in Punjab, Mr. Badal offered them to setup a separate “Taiwan Electronic City’ in Punjab where units from Taiwan could set up their base. He said that Punjab was emerging as Textile hub and Textile machinery units of Taiwan have their captive consumers in the state. He said that Taiwan with expertise in polymer manufacture could setup its polymer units near Bathinda refinery as this refinery would provide them raw material with its residue. He said that new industrial policy of Punjab was most industrial friendly policy as Punjab with smooth industrial relations was the right state to invest. 

Expressing his desire to strengthen its trade ties with Punjab and he said that his visit to this state was a step forward to strengthen these ties. Mr. Kevin Y.C. Chen, Commercial Secretary, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, Michael Huang, CEO Branch Manager and a delegation of industrialists also accompanied the Taiwan representative. Mr. Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary Industry and Commerce, Mr. P.S. Aujla, Principal Secretary to Deputy CM, Mr. Ajay Mahajan, Special Principal Secretary to Deputy CM were also present in the meeting.
