The Punjab Technical Education Department today took a novel initiative ofintroducing ‘Punjab Skill Aptitude Test’ for all ITI aspirants to help them to identify and choose the proper trade in ITIs as per their skill. The Punjab Government has also decided to impart free counseling to the students for the selection of the appropriate trade. Disclosing this here today Madan Mohan Mittal, Technical Education Minister said that Technical Education and Industrial Training department is first in the country which has taken this initiative with the collaboration of the DGET. He said that under this action plan the department has been exploring the different skills of the students of class 8th, 10th and 12th standards further providing them free counseling for the selection of trade. He said that viewing the overwhelming success of this initiative in Punjab, DGET was now planning to replicate this action plan in the whole of country.
He said that in the process of Aptitude Test and career counseling students have been advised to opt for proper trade and this advice is given relying on their skills and IQ level. Mr. Mittal further said that for appearing in the test students would have to pay only Rs.50 and the rest of cost would be borne by the state government. This test would be conducted in the 63 ITIs of the state. He said that for the detailed information on the institutions and trades available one could log on to www.dtepunjab.gov.in. Students can appear for the test up to August 14, in any approved institution on any working day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
