The Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari flagged off the ‘Artificial Limb Fitment Team’ of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur led by its Founder Shri D.R. Mehta, for going to Kabul, Afghanistan to fit 1000 artificial limbs to amputees in Kabul totally free of charge. It is the 5th Camp of BMVSS in Afghanistan and ‘Jaipur Foot’ is now a household name in Afghanistan and has generated enormous goodwill between the two countries.
The Vice President said that he felt privileged to be associated with a great mission of not only providing assistance but also to make people smile. The people of Afghanistan have suffered the agonies of war and also loss of lives and produced a very large number of disabled persons. He said that this effort symbolises close friendship between India and Afghanistan. He wished BMVSS greater success in this noble cause and hoped that many more disabled people will be rehabilitated with Jaipur Foot.The camp is being organised on the basis of the MoU which the Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled of Afghanistan and BMVSS entered into on 16th May, 2014 in Kabul. This on-the-spot artificial limb fitment camp in Kabul would promote the people to people friendship between India and Afghanistan.
