Badal Directs Co-Operation Department To Release Arrears Of Cane Growerswithin A Week

In a major relief to the cane growers across the state, the Punjab Government has decided to release the pending arrears of Rs 100 crore to them within a week. A decision to this effect was taken by the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal here today. According to a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office this decision had been taken to clear the long pending payments of the cane growers, who had supplied Sugarcane to the Co-operative Sugar Mills. Mr. Badal reiterated that the state government was committed to ensure the welfare of the farmers at all costs. He also directed the Co-operation department to ensure the timely payment of arrears to the farmers. The Chief Minister categorically said that no laxity on part of any government officials would be tolerated and each farmer who had supplied sugarcane to the cooperative mills should get his each penny in a week's time.
